Music festivals are a magical place that carry their own spirit. They are a place for like-minded people to gather and connect over music and activities, most of the time for several days. Hip-hop acts can certainly be found on Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Lollapalooza lineups, but some festivals are dedicated to rap music specifically. Here are some of the top music festivals in the USA for hip-hop fans.

Rolling Loud

Outdoor concert

Located in: Inglewood, California and Miami, Florida

Now the largest of its kind, the first Rolling Loud was held in Florida in 2015. Since then, it's been brought to numerous locations, such as New York City, Thailand, and Austria. Currently, each festival has three stages, which have hosted artists such as Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Nicki Minaj, and Big Sean. It's not a camping festival, so non-locals must book off-site accommodations.

Dreamville Festival

Located in: Raleigh, North Carolina

J. Cole is currently one of the biggest names in rap music, and he gives back to his community by curating Dreamville Festival each year. This two-day event has included acts such as J. Cole himself, 21 Savage, Kehlani, Lil Baby and many up-and-comers. Local food, culture, and art is at the forefront to further celebrate Raleigh.

Hot 97 FM Summer Jam

Located in: East Rutherford, New Jersey

Summer Jam has proven that longevity in a rap festival is possible. Founded in 1994, the event now takes place in USB Arena after shifting away from MetLife Stadium. The party begins in the parking lot long before the first artist hits the stage. This one-day festival has showcased artists like Cardi B, Tory Lanez, Migos, Meek Mill, and A Boogie with da Hoodie.

Made in America

Concert with an American Flag

Located in: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z founded Made in America in 2012, and to this day, he still chooses which acts take the stage. This unique festival takes place over Labor Day weekend, pairing thrilling amusement park rides with the best rap has to offer. Artists from recent lineups include Doja Cat, Tyler, the Creator, and even Justin Bieber.

Lil WeezyAna

Concert Audience

Located in: New Orleans, Louisiana

Lil' Wayne's annual rap festival takes place in his home town of New Orleans. The fest only lasts one day, but fans of Lil' Wayne are always sure to see him on the lineup. Other past performers include Trey Songz, Saweetie, and Coi Leray.

One Musicfest

Located in: Atlanta, Georgia

For over 10 years, One Musicfest has brought the heat to Atlanta, Georgia. It celebrates the city by providing local vendors and food stands a place to make their name. This two-day party is held outdoors on three stages. In the past, its talent has included Nas, City Girls, Gucci Mane, and DMX.

Something in the Water

Performers on stage

Located in: Virginia Beach, Virginia.

This-three day festival is headed each year by Pharrell Williams. It usually takes place in Virginia Beach, though its also been held in Washington, D.C. in the past. The lineup has historically featured Roddy Ricch, Rae Sremmurd, Missy Elliot, and Jaden Smith.

Things to Bring

I've never attended an outdoor festival without bringing a CamelBak for water. These vessels strap to your back and make it simple to keep hydrated, especially after reaching for beer all day. If you need to carry anything, most venues require clear stadium bags for safety purposes.

So many people come from all over the world to attend festivals like these. If you love hip-hop as much as I do, this guide can be a jump-off point for a bucket list you never knew you needed.
