For the average person, the idea of driving a Ferrari or Lamborghini seems like a faraway dream. Thanks to Pushstart Maranello, the dream doesn't have to be unreachable. The company is rightfully located in Maranello, Italy - the official birthplace of the Ferrari. Due to this, most of the available cars are Ferraris, though there are a couple Lamborghinis to choose from as well. The home of the Lamborghini is Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, which is only about 40 minutes away from Maranello. So, as a lover of exotic cars, I pulled out my wallet and I made it happen, and I'm about to tell you why you should too.

The Cars We Drove

On the left is a Lamborghini Huracan, which costs around 165 USD to drive for 10-15 minutes when you book through Viator. This particular model can go from 0-60 miles per hour in three seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 200 MPH. On the right is a Ferrari 458 Speciale, which my husband drove while I was in the Lamborghini. For the same amount of time, this car costs around 110 USD (via Viator) and reaches speeds of 203 MPH. There are many other cars to choose from as well.

This experience was obviously expensive, but I have plenty reasons why I have no regrets. For one, the instructor that rides with you tells you when a straightaway is coming up, giving you a real chance to push on the gas. Secondly, if you've ever planned on driving a Ferrari, the most authentic experience will come from the city in which it was born. Finally, it's truly a once in a lifetime feat for lovers of exotic cars and truthfully, even casual fans.

Know Before you Go

  • You can take as many photos of the cars as you want, but it will cost extra for a photo of you behind the wheel. You can also pay for video footage of your drive.

  • We visited during the down season, but we've read enough reviews to realize that booking online during busy months is recommended. It will also ensure you get your desired car.

  • Save time by visiting the website and choosing which car you want to drive before you arrive.

  • If you want merch, bring extra money for the gift shop.

Don't Forget the Museum

In walking distance from Pushstart Maranello, Museum Ferrari houses many iconic Ferrari models and scaled replicas from the past. Visitors get the chance to learn about the company and racing team and view trophies, photos, and memorabilia. Also in the museum is a replica of Enzo Ferrari's office. If you'd rather visit a museum dedicated to the man himself, the Enzo Ferrari Museum is about 30 minutes away in Modena. While you there, learn about the top things to do in Modena.

Accommodation Recommendations

Maranello isn't a highly touristed area, so hotels are kind of hard to find. One option is Planet Hotel, a five-story building across from the Ferrari factory. Beautiful and quaint, Hotel Villa is only a short walk from the museum. A more luxurious option, Maranello Palace is equipped with a gorgeous terrace.

If you've read this far, there's a good chance I've convinced you. And if I have, you'll want to do much more when you're in Italy. Check out how we spent two weeks in Italy for help.
